Noir et blanc will include six prints from the Drawings Portfolio printed in 1948 by Eric Ledin. After WWII, the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco saw the enrollment of many war veterans studying on the GI Bill. The school attracted instructors from all over the country including the renowned surrealist printmaker, Stanley William Hayter. Several of his students became known as the Sausalito Six, producing the Drawings Portfolio prints as a benefit for the Seashore Gallery in Sausalito. The Sausalito Six were Richard Diebenkorn, James Budd Dixon, John Hultberg, Walter Kuhlman, Frank Lobdell and George Stillman. In addition, the 8 gallery is proud to feature the recently discovered black and white works from another California School of Fine Arts teacher- William Morehouse. The series was executed in 1965 and is entitled "Nightflowers." |
