John Grillo : Painter, Teacher, b. 1917

John Grillo attended Hartford Art School, Conn, where he met Edward Dugmore 1933-1938. With Alexander Calder and Dugmore, helped Eugene Berman design sets for Paper Ball:Le Cirque des Chiffonniers. Attended California School of Fine Arts 1946-1947. Studied with Hans Hofmann in New York and at Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts, Provincetown, Mass. 1948-1951. Received Ford Foundation grant 1964. Taught painting at New School for Social Research, New York City 1964-1966. Professor of Fine Arts, University of Massachusetts at Amherst 1967-1991.
